Ahead of IPL 2020, Kings Eleven Punjab will have a new captain in place in the form of KL Rahul. The Indian batsman enjoyed a prolific run with the bat in the last season. He was the second-highest run-getter in the tournament, making 593 runs at an average of 53.91.
For the last two seasons, Ravichandran Ashwin led the KXIP set-up. However, with Indian spinner being traded to Delhi Capitals, KL Rahul has been given the captaincy duties for the 2020 IPL. KXIP head coach, Anil Kumble heaped praise on KL Rahul and is confident that he will prove to be a good leader for the team.
“KL is very relaxed, he is very mature, I have known him for a long time. He has the experience, international experience, having played this long and of course, the last couple of years he has been a part of the Kings XI and he has been their main player. He knows the team very well’ he knows the youngsters really well. He is very excited and he is very keen. He has his hands full by being a batsman, keeper and then the captain,” Kumble said in a video posted by KXIP on their Twitter handle.
Anil Kumble feels that the team has a great balance to the side this year. The side boats of a mix of talented youngsters as well as experienced players. Nevertheless, it would be interesting to see how the team performs this year under the leadership of KL Rahul.
“We have high hopes from this season, we have a really good squad, a very balanced squad, some experienced and some youngsters. I am getting to know them now and seeing them play for the first time here, some of them in nets, so yeah just looking forward to build on the preparation and to be ready for the IPL.”
2020 IPL is slated to start on 19th September 2020, while the final will be played on 10th November 2020. All the matches will be streamed live on Hotstar. The schedule of the tournament is likely to be announced on Sunday.
