In the semifinal encounter, India exhibited a gradual ascendancy over Japan after a tentative start. A crucial penalty corner in the early stages offered India an opportunity to gain an advantage. However, Japan’s goalkeeper thwarted Harmanpreet Singh’s powerful drag flick, and a swift counterattack from the Japanese side momentarily unsettled the Indian defence, with the final shot narrowly missing its target.

Amidst the ebb and flow of the game, forward Shamsher Singh found himself on the receiving end of a green card, sidelining him for two minutes. Both teams relentlessly pressed for a breakthrough, leading to a balanced first quarter.

The second quarter witnessed a shift in momentum as India capitalized on a Japanese error. Akashdeep Singh capitalized on the opportunity, propelling India into the lead with a skillful field goal. The Indian squad swiftly built on their advantage, scoring twice more before halftime. Harmanpreet Singh’s precision in executing a drag flick secured India’s second goal, followed by a superb strike from Mandeep, further extending the scoreline to 3-0.

As the third quarter unfolded, India surged forward with unwavering intensity. Sumit’s remarkable incursion into the striking circle culminated in a goal, enhancing India’s lead in the 39th minute. The team’s relentless pursuit of victory continued, with Karthi Selvam sealing a fifth goal for India in the 51st minute, skillfully converting Sukhjeet Singh’s pass from within the circle.

Reflecting on the upcoming final clash against Malaysia, Harmanpreet Singh acknowledged the formidable challenge that lies ahead.
