India U-17 Eves Gear Up To Face Sweden, Thomas Dennerby Set For India U-17 Managerial Debut

India has been chosen as the host country for the upcoming FIFA U-17 women’s world cup. India will also be participating in the prestigious tournament by the virtue of being the host country.

In order to prepare for the tournament, the Indian eves are geared up to play the three-nation tournament at the Mumbai Football Arena. The other two nation’s which are part of the tournament will be Sweden and Thailand. This will be the first international tournament to be held in India at the U-17 level for women.

The Indian eves will be locking horns with Sweden in the tournament opener on Friday and the match will also mark the managerial debut of Thomas Dennerby, who was appointed as the gaffer of the U-17 Women’s team in the month of November this year.

Thomas Dennerby said ahead of the match that he is happy with the preparation and progress that the young girls have shown since he was appointed the coach. It is to be noted that as a part of their preparations the team had been training in Goa under Dennerby and his support staff.

Dennerby said that most of the players have been doing very good. Commenting on the skills of the players the Indian coach said that the most of the players are technically sound. He added that a few have a very good touch at the ball while many have good passing skills. In the same breath, Dennerby added that the team still has some work left to for fitness level. Dennerby also spoke about the style of football he wants to inculcate in the team and stressed on the importance of having a passing game.

On the other hand, Dennerby’s counterpart Sweden U-17 head coach Par Lagerstrom said that he was excited to play the tournament and was looking forward to facing Dennerby’s girls especially given the fact that Dennerby has coached in Sweden for a number of years.

Talking further about the Indian eves Lagerstrom said that it will be an intresting contest as he has not seen the Indian eves play although he did get some inputs from Dennerby confirming that the girls were technically sound players.

India will face Sweden followed by Thailand on Friday. The top two teams to clash in the final two days later.

The match kicks off at 6 pm and will be streamed live on Facebook on the Indian Football Team page.
