IND vs SL 1st ODI LIVE UPDATES: Indian batters run riot, set Sri Lanka a target of 374 runs

If India’s innings is to be believed, it is expected to be a run-fest and a thriller series between these two teams which is also a part of the ICC ODI CHAMPIONSHIP 2023. In this first ODI between India and Sri Lanka being played in Guwahati, India scored 373 runs in their first innings and have set SL a mammoth target to chase.

India’s innings started brilliantly with Shubhman Gill and Rohit Sharma reaching their respective fifties in no time and setting it up beautifully for the batters to come. SL got the first breakthrough in the form of Gill when he got out on a score of 70 in the 20th over when India’s score was 143. Rohit batted for a few more overs as he also reached his fifty after a very long time in international cricket scoring 83 runs but was unlucky and gave his wicket to Hasaranga.

It was all about the Virat Kohli show after that as he scored his 73rd century (113*) in international cricket moving one more step closer to the ultimate mark. He batted holding one end and received significant contributions from different batters in the Indian team. Shreyas Iyer made 28 runs and K L Rahul made a quick-fire 39 in 29 balls to let the scoreboard ticking in the middle overs. In the end, it was Kohli’s exceptional innings and the start given by openers that helped India reach this score.

As far as Sri Lankan bowling is concerned, it was a very disappointing performance from them and they have left their batters with a lot of work to do. The pick of the bowlers was Kasun Rajitha who got 3 important wickets while giving 88 runs in his 10 overs.

Let’s see if Sri Lanka pulls off a miracle chase or if Indian bowlers complement their batters well by finishing off this match early on in the second innings. Stay tuned for post-match updates on our website.
