Hardik Pandya hints about relinquishing India's Captaincy in T20Is

India’s premier All-rounder Hardik Pandya who was handed over the captaincy of the national team almost 6 months ago revealed his plans as the captain of the team in near future. He has been a very confident cricketer since bursting onto the scene while playing for Mumbai Indians in the IPL.

He led the Indian team to win 2 T20I series this year, first against Sri-Lanka then against New Zealand. The management’s call to give him the responsibility has proved to be fruitful until now as he has wealth of international and domestic experience by now.

Last night at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, Hardik Pandya’s side won their 3-match T20I series against New Zealand. After losing the first one, India fought back and restricted the Blackcaps on 101 and 66 in the following 2 fixtures.

Pandya’s decision of favoring Shubhman Gill for Prithvi shaw in the playing XI was criticized at first but after Gill’s 63 ball 126 has shrugged off all the doubts.

During the post match presentation last night, the 29-year-old disclosed a lot of things about his captaincy and he began with speaking about being elected as the man of the series award. โ€œI donโ€™t mind winning (man of the series award), but there were so many performances here that were exceptional. This Man of the Series and trophy goes out to the whole support staff and the team.

He also spoke upon his approach and his tactics of not pre-anticipating any situation but rather reading the game well and acting according to the concurrent stages. Then he was questioned about his decision to bat first last night and said he likes to lead with example and take the ownership.

“In my captaincy, I look to keep it simple and back my gut. I have a simple rule, if I go down, I will go down on my terms. So at the end of the day, I take calls on my own because I like to take ownership.”ย
