Social Media Controversies

Harbhajan Singh is highly active on social media. The Indian cricketer doesn’t hesitate in expressing his views on any subject, be it cricket or politics. For this very reason, he has often surrounded himself with controversies. There have been various instances where Harbhajan Singh has made headlines because of expressing his views on social media, recently being the Shahid Afridi remark on India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Shahid Afridi recently criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for carrying out atrocities against Indians in Kashmir to which the Indians slammed Harbhajan Singh to support Shahid Afridi’s foundation for donating money to protect Humanity.

The comments did not sit down well with the Indian spinner and said that will never support Afridi for anything in the future.

“If anyone speaks against my country or countrymen or my prime minister it is not acceptable, whoever it is,” Singh said. He even apologized to everyone who has been hurt by his action and promised that he will never speak for anyone who spreads hate. Said Harbhajan Singh.

Tweet Against Adam Gilchrist: On September 2, 2019, Jasprit Bumrah became the third Indian bowler to have picked a hat-trick in Tests. To this, a video of Harbhajan Singh’s taking a hat-trick against Australia started doing the rounds.

Adam Gilchrist was Harbhajan Singh’s third victim and when the former saw the video, he wrote, “NO DRS with a crying image.”

To this Harbhajan Singh wrote something which didn’t go down well with the netizens and was then brutally criticized for his comments.

“U think u would have survived for long if not a first ball? Stop crying over these things mate.. thought u would talk sense after ur playing days.. but few things never change u r the prime example of that. Always crying.” He wrote.

Though he deleted his Tweet later.

Social Media Controversies

Harbhajan Singh’s career was riding smoothly until Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja came into the picture. The 39-year old spinner soon lost his place over Ashwin’s in India’s limited over’s team and Test team.

Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja carried the flag of India together thereafter for many years in both the formats, making Harbhajan’s chances of making a comeback grim.

On one occasion, when India won the test series against New Zealand 3-0, Harbhajan Singh took a dig at Ravichandran Ashwin saying that the current Indian pitches aid spinners more than what it used to.

“Kumble and my test wicket count would have been something else if we got wickets like last 4 years we playing on.”

Ashwin, in reply, called Harbhajan Singh a legend and tried not the stretch it further.

“Harbhajan Singh has been an inspiration and I started bowling off-spin only after seeing the 2001 series. This banter going on is unhealthy.” Ashwin wrote.

“By pitting players against each other we aren’t going to gain anything but just a juicy headline. Lets respect people and keep the game healthy,” he added.

Harbhajan did reply to that and closed the matter once for all.

“Dear got nothing against you. For some reason, my words are misconstrued. Wish you nothing but the best Keep the flag high! God bless,” said Bhajji in his Tweet.
