Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir have at time shared a complicated relationship. Both of the batters come from Delhi and aggression and adrenaline runs deep in their veins. During a 2012 IPL match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders, Kohli and Gambhir became a part of a major verbal spat.
Although things were fine later but that heated altercation could have gone anywhere and it is by far the most scary events in the history of IPL. Regardless of the seniority, Gautam Gambhir has appreciated his statesman for his performances time and time out.
Very recently against Australia at the 2nd Border-Gavaskar trophy 2023 in Delhi, Virat Kohli became the fastest batter ever to cross 25,000 runs in Red ball cricket. It took him 549 innings to reach 25, 012 runs 28 less than previous record holder Sachin Tendulkar.
Ricky Ponting (588), Jacques Kallis (594), Kumar Sangakkara (608) and Mahela Jayawardene (701) are next in the list. On that note, Gautam Gambhir had very appreciative words for the 33-year-old top order batter. Gambhir praised Kohli’s consistency in India as well as in foreign conditions.
The former T20 & ODI world cup winner thinks it is not an easy task to score in England, Australia, South Africa, West Indies. He also said that Virat doesn’t have much to achieve. From our perspective the only missing things is an ICC Cricket World cup as a senior player.
“Scoring 25 thousand runs is no joke. He has seen a lot of ups and downs but has remained consistent. Your game goes through a lot of changes. Your stance changes, your technique changes, your strengths and weaknesses change, your mode of dismissals become different, your emotions change and if you can factor in all of that, control all these things and score these many runs then you are a great.” – Gambhir said via Star Sports.
