Formula 1 announced a 10‑year agreement to stage an African Grand Prix in Rwanda, with the inaugural race slated for the early 2030s. The event will be held on a newly built circuit in Bugesera, southeast of Kigali, marking the sport’s first return to the continent since 1993, a gap of 37 years.

President Paul Kagame welcomed the deal, saying it will revitalise tourism and keep fans engaged year‑round. Stefano Domenicali described the agreement as “a landmark moment for F1”, echoing Lewis Hamilton’s long‑standing call for a race in Africa. The contract runs for ten years, securing the Grand Prix on the calendar.
