Eoin Morgan dethrones MS Dhoni with most sixes by International Captain

England ODI skipper Eoin Morgan has overtaken the former Indian skipper, MS Dhoni, to record the most number of sixes by an International captain. 

Morgan blasted 106 runs off 84 balls during the third and the final ODI match against Ireland at Southampton on Tuesday. He also led his side to a stiff target of 328 runs for the visitors. England skipper bettered MS Dhoni’s record of 211 sixes in just 163 matches only. 

Dhoni took 332 games in his record while former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting took 324 innings to hit 171 sixes. The others in the list include New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum (170 sixes in 121 matches) and South Africa’s AB de Villiers (135sixes in 124 matches) 

In his innings of 106 runs, Morgan also got considerable support from Tom Banton who scored 58 runs off 51 balls. Morgan hit 15 fours and four massive sixes as he reached the milestone. 

Last year, Eoin Morgan also became the first-ever England skipper to lead his side to a World Cup triumph against New Zealand in the finals. 

In today’s match, Ireland won the toss and opt to bowl first. In response, the England batsmen scored 328 runs in 49.5 overs, also setting a stiff target of 329 runs for the visitors. England has already sealed the series in the last two ODI matches of the series.
