On Wednesday evening, the Chennai Super Kings defeated the Delhi Capitals with ease to increase their prospects of making the play-offs. CSK defeated David Warner’s team by a score of 27 runs, its sixth victory of the year, to solidify their grip on the second slot in the 2023 Indian Premier League. At the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, the Super Kings chose to bat & put up a respectable total of 167/8 on a sluggish track before holding their rivals to 140/8.
Although neither CSK batsman was able to get above the 30-run threshold, the middle order of the team, led by captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, made a substantial impact. Having the team’s total at 126/6 in the seventeenth over when Dhoni entered the field, the CSK captain hit 20 off just 9 balls, including two sixes and a four. Dhoni has made a few of quick brief appearances for the Super Kings this year.

He encountered 47 deliveries and scored 96 runs, posting a fantastic season strike rate of 204.26. All of those, 72 (three fours and ten sixes) were imported from borders. “That’s what my job is, I told them, ‘this is what I’m supposed to do. Don’t make me run a lot.” – Dhoni told Murali Karthik after the match.
“It has been working. Others are doing their job, and I’ve told them that this is what I need to do. So, happy to contribute to whatever deliveries I’m getting. Accordingly, I’m practising also. What I may get in the game is what I actually practice, so it helps me perform.” the CSK captain further said.
With three games left in the campaign, CSK will try to hold onto their spot and perhaps fight Gujarat Titans for first place. The top two teams will compete in the first qualifier, and the victor will advance directly to the season’s championship game.
