The owners of the famous English football club that plays in the English Premier League (EPL) have shown interest in buying a women’s IPL franchise sources have confirmed. The Glazers family which owns the Man United team in the EPL have been fond of cricket for a very long time.

They have already tried their hand at buying an IPL franchise when the two new teams were added to the league last year but couldn’t get hold of any of the teams. They already have invested in the Desert Vipers franchise that is playing the ILT20 in UAE and now have shown confirmed interest in the Women’s IPL 2023.

The BCCI has released the Invitation to Tender (ITT) for women’s IPL franchises and the deadline to buy the tender is January 21 as the auction for the Women’s IPL franchises will take place on January 25 which will be conducted by the Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI). It is believed that the Women’s IPL has created a lot of buzz in the market and over 20 parties have purchased the ITT till now and have shown interest in buying a WIPL franchise.

A representative of the Glazers, Phil Olivier (CEO of the Desert Vipers team), told Cricbuzz in an interview that the Glazers are very keen on getting entry into the Indian market, especially the IPL or the WIPL for that matter. He further expressed, “Having bought into the ILT20, it is natural for us to look into other cricket opportunities around the world, including Women’s IPL.”

The Women’s IPL is all set to be played in the month of March with five franchises in the first three seasons and adding one more franchise from the fourth season. The BCCI also cleared that all the revenue from the league will be split 50-50 among the BCCI and the franchises for the first five years as it happened at the time of the Men’s IPL back in 2008.
