After the thrilling 1st leg of the semifinals , the battle for the 2nd leg will take place at Sree Kanteerave Stadium in Bangalore on Sunday 7:30 pm IST.
Bengaluru FC, will try to contain the ISL league shield winners in their upcoming home fixture as they registered a 0-1 win against Mumbai City FC in the 1st leg. Captain Sunil Chettri who has been in the news for his controversial freekick goal in the playoff’s against Kerala Blasters FC scored the only goal of the contest at Mumbai Football Arena. He was subbed in after an hour of the game and made an impact within 20 min of his gameplay by heading the ball into the net on the accurate corner delivery by Roshan Singh.
Eventhough, Mumbai City FC dominated the game in terms of posession and attempts they were’nt able to stop Bengaluru FC’s counter attack. Of the total 21 attempts by Mumbai City FC they almost missed the target 15 times by shooting the ball over the crossbar. Still it’s a positive point for them to work upon in the away fixture as they have only lost 1 away game this season so they can bounce back as a stronger side.
With the away goal rule being abolished by the Isl management from the 21-22 season onwards Mumbai city FC should atleast win this match by a 2 goal difference to reach the finals but if the match ends with an equal aggregate score the normal procedure of an extra time and further leading to penalties will be followed. Mumbai City FC has lost the last 3 matches they have played so they look to gain their form back which they had almost throughout the season .Meanwhile Bengaluru City FC seems to be unstoppable as they are riding high on motivation with a 10 match winning streak .
The teams have met 3 times this season where 2 matches were won by Bengaluru FC and 1 by Mumbai City FC. Chettri scored in both the occasions and led his team to victory . So it will be intresting to see whether Mumbai will be able to hit the target this time or Chettri & co. will continue with their unbeaten hot streak and become the 1st finalist.
