Benfica also known as The Eagles is a Portuguese Football Club. They participate in the Taca da Liga, Supertaca Candido de Oliveira, Taca de Portugal and Liga NOS.

The Club had also appeared in major European competitions as well as Latin European competitions.

HISTORY

The club was founded 115 years ago in 1904 under the name of Sport Lisboa but was the name changed into Benfica after the club merged with Grupo Sport Benfica.

The initial years of the club were not so admiring as it became after 1934 when the Portuguese League officially formed. In the league, the Club emerged as a dominant club by conquering three consecutive titles from 1936 to 1938.

The club ended the 50s with 9 Primeira Liga titles and 10 Taca de Portugal trophies. After booming in domestic tournaments, the club started their journey to become a big club in European Football.

They stopped the Real Madrid five times in a row to conquer the European Cup. In 1961, the club won the European Cup and defended the title successfully the following year.

The winning streak of the club halted during the mid-80s due to the financial crisis. But after eight years the club again stood up to conquer their 24^th Taca de Portugal.

In 2013-14, the club won the Treble including Primeira Liga, Taca de Portugal and Taca da Liga for the first time.

The Club is under the ownership of Sport Lisboa e Benfica sports club. The sports club apart from Football also promotes 12 different other sports. Luis Filipe Vieira is the current president of the club.

The Estadio da Lu serves the club as their home ground. Located in Libson the stadium has a net capacity to hold 64,642 spectators.

The current net worth of the club is 156.6 Million Euros.
