BBL 9: Sydney Sixers beat Adelaide Strikers by 2 wickets despite Rashid Khan hat-trick

Sydney Sixers defeated Adelaide Strikers by 2 wickets in a low scoring thriller played at Adelaide Oval on Wednesday.

Sydney Sixers captain Daniel Hughes won the toss and decided to field first. The decision paid off as Jackson Bird got the early breakthrough dismissing Phil Salt cheaply for 9. Jake Weatherald played with positive intent and took on Sixers bowlers. At the end of six overs, Adelaide Strikers were 53 for 2.

After the power play overs, Carey and Weatherald looked in good touch making the batting look easy. Tom Curran provided the breakthrough dismissing Weatherald for 47. Carey and Weatherlad added 39 runs for the 3rd wicket.

Curran and rest of Sydney Sixers bowlers kept a lid on Strikers batsmen and bowled them out for 135 in 19.4 overs. Tom Curran was the pick of bowlers for Sydney with figures of 4/22.

Chasing 136 runs to win, Strikers bowlers made an impact right away with 2 quick wickets to put pressure on the Sixers team. At the end of six overs, Sixers were 46 for 2.

After the power play overs, Rashid Khan did the damage by getting the wicket of Daniel Hughes in the 7th over. He was bought back into the attack in 11th over and got wickets of James Vince and Jack Edwards to pick a brilliant hat-trick. He then got rid of Jordan Silk to reduce Sydney Sixers at 83 for 6. At one stage, Sixers were 97 for 7.

Tom Curran played a handy knock scoring 21 off 20 balls before getting dismissed by Conway. Curran and Bird added 27 runs for the 8th wicket. Josh Hazlewood struck 3 successive boundaries off Peter Siddle to give Sydney Sixers a 2-wicket win.

Sydney Sixers 137 for 8 in 18.4 overs (James Vince 27, Tom Curran 21, Rashid Khan 4/22) beat Adelaide Strikers 135 in 19.4 overs (  Weatherald 47, Alex Carey 32, Tom Curran 4/22) by 2 wickets.
