Babar Azam breaks silence on his comparison with Virat Kohli

Pakistan batsman Babar Azam is currently one of the most consistent batsmen in all three formats of the game and he has been getting acknowledgement from all over the world. He has also been compared to the Indian batsman Virat Kohli often and many cricket experts gave their verdict that the stylish Pakistan batsman is of the same quality as Kohli.

However, the 24-year old himself denied to get compared with the Indian captain and insisted that he is still some time away from getting anywhere close to Kohli.

Look he (Kohli) has already achieved a lot. He is a legend in his country. Honestly, there is no comparison with me right now but eventually, I also want to get where he is today,” Babar told Times of India.

The youngster also claimed that it’s only the media and the people who are drawing comparisons and also expressed his determination to become more consistent in the longer format of the game.

The media and people have drawn comparisons between me and Virat Kohli but I realize that I still need to get more runs in red-ball cricket to be ranked among the top players. That is why in recent months I have been focusing a lot on getting consistent scores in Test matches,” he added.

It’s needless to say that a player feels the pressure if he gets compared to players like Kohli, Williamson and Smith. But a focused Babar Azam said he feels no pressure rather he spends more time to rectify his mistakes after watching his own batting clips again and again.

I don’t feel any pressure if anyone compares me with Kohli or (Steve) Smith. I am now more focused on my batting and I spend hours watching videos of my innings. I catch my mistakes and then I try to ensure I don’t commit them again the next time,” Babar concluded.
