Asia Cup Decision on hold as BCCI Officials to Attend the Meeting Soon

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has not taken a call about conducting Asia Cup 2020 as they are still waiting for ICC full member meeting that will take place on 10th June as based on the cases in different parts of the world the call will be taken that whether T20 World Cup will take place in October-November window or not.

The event is scheduled in September and while it is Pakistan Cricket Board turn to host, it will be changed if Asia Cup schedule comes up as due to political tension between India and Pakistan.
It is understood that ACC will wait for the ICC decision on the T20 World Cup in Australia (October-November) before taking a call for Asia Cup.

ACC press release stated after the meeting on Monday “the Board emphasized the importance of holding the Asia Cup 2020. In light of the impact and consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, possible venue options for the Asia Cup 2020 were discussed and it was decided to take the final decision in due course,”.

A senior ACC official said that the discussion is going on for postponement however the alternate dates have not been figured out that. The ACC meeting was chaired by Bangladesh Cricket Board Nazmul Hasan Papon and it was the first continental meeting attended by BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah (BCCI Secretary).

One of the officials stated that “The Board was also apprised of the status and progress of the ACC’s involvement with the Asian Games 2022 in Hangzhou, China,”.
