Anjum Mudgil Completes Hat-Trick Of Titles At National Shooting Championship

Anjum Mudgil, one of India’s top shooters, scored a hat-trick of titles at the 63rd National Championship on Wednesday as she clinched the women’s 50m Rifle Three Positions title, while Abhishek Verma and Yashaswini Singh Deshwal, who won the Tokyo Olympic quota earlier, secured gold medal in the 10m air pistol mixed team event. Maharashtra’s Harsha Nithave and Aniket Jodi had to settle for silver.

Manu Bhaker, another Tokyo Olympics quota winner, registered the seventh gold in the national competition, as she was crowned champion in the junior mixed team pistol event along with her partner Sarabjot Singh. On Tuesday, Manu had won four gold medals as she stood on top of the podium in senior, junior and team events in the 10m air pistol titles.

Anjum was having a good day at the tournament from the starting of the day. She was in her top form as she led the qualification with a 1172 points. Her dominance was clearly visible in the field as Raj Chaudhary of Haryana who followed Anjum had a total of 1164 points.  Anjum then shot 449.9 in the finals to bite gold, she lead Tamil Nadu’s N Gaayathri, who settled for silver, by 2.6 points.

The bronze medal in the women’s 3P went to Haryana’s Nischal who also won the junior women’s 3P title with a total score of 451.9 in the junior final. Anjum was grabbed the team gold for Punjab in the event.

Haryana duo of Abhishek Verma and Yashaswini Deswal overwhelmed Maharashtra’s Harshada Nithave and Aniket 16-10 in the final of the 10m air pistol mixed team events.

Commonwealth Games champions Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot were crowned champions in the junior mixed team pistol event as they overcame Punjab’s Khushseerat and Arshdeep Banga with a score of 16-8.

The year 209 has been a golden year for the shooters of India as this year the shooting contingent has won record 15 Tokyo Olympics quota berths.
