Absence of a key player in Tottenham, affecting the game says Jose Mourinho

In a recent interview, Jose Mourinho stated it’s very difficult for Tottenham to play normally without Harry Kane

The Spurs are already having a tough season as it is but it has just gone from bad to worse with their ace player Harry Kane ruled out until at least April with a hamstring injury. He suffered the injury during the 1-0 Premier League defeat at Southampton on New Year’s Day and according to medicals, he has been advised an operation.

Kane’s injury in this season has let to an alert bell for Mourinho, as he now has a task to get his team into the top four in absence of his striker.

“No player can take the injured Harry Kane’s place and Tottenham cannot play like we normally play” without him, says manager Jose Mourinho.

Kane has scored 27 goals in 31 appearances for club and country this season.

“If I speak too much about Harry, I get a bit depressed and then you are going to say ‘he is miserable’,” Mourinho said.

“It’s better to talk about things that make me laugh.”

Tottenham host Premier League leaders Liverpool on Saturday at 23:00 IST.

“You know that we cannot play like we normally play when Harry Kane is in the team,” Mourinho said.

“There’s no player who can replace Harry Kane.”

Speaking of other players, Danny Rose is back in training for the team, whereas Hugo Lloris is into mild practice after getting injured in October. Also, there are  assumptions made about midfielder Christian Eriksen’s time ahead in the team, whose contract expires at the end of the season

“If the boss [Daniel Levy] arrives with a solution to face these difficult months ahead of us then so be it, welcome,” Mourinho added.

“If not then we will wait for the summer for the next evolution of the team.

“The January market is a strange market. It’s a market of opportunities. When the opportunity arrives you have the chance to do it.”
