Ahead of IPL, BCCI successfully organized WPL(Women’s Premier League 3rd edition, where Mumbai Indians Women have won mega event for record two times and Royal Challengers Bangalore Women have bagged this title once.

Talking about the latest development, BCCI is no mood to extend their team more than 5 teams considering financial exposure of the league and other miscellaneous features.

IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal along with BCCI President Roger Binny have expressed themselves where they said “We were looking to increase the number of teams after 3rd edition, but looking forward to all permutations and combinations, We will look to consolidate with the same number of team going forward” they stated while talking to PTI.

They further added that WPL has grown further with passive edition as we can see Audience interest towards Women’s Cricket is developing and it will grow in times to come.

WPL 2024: What to Expect from the Upcoming edition of Women's Premier League?

“Within 3 editions, WPL has grown substantially in terms of audience. The Broadcasting numbers are extremely positive”

“We are Hoping that this tournament grows, with times to come with 5 teams so far however it will grow exponentially in times to come with more teams”

The BCCI generated 4670 crore by selling 5 teams to distinct owners, and Media rights were sold for 951 crore making it second most financially stronger league after WBBL.

The crowd certainly came in Huge numbers to support our Women’s Team but the biggest focus behind organizing league of this stature is to promote Women Sport in the country which they successfully did.

However different promotional strategy could be brought in place to make sure that this league grow in leaps and bounds in stature in times to come.

The Women’s Premier League is still far fetched to be organized in home and away league format which IPL is doing at the moment.

With growing popularity we might see home and away league matches to be held in more numbers.
