When every player and management kept their mouth mum, out of the blue the so-called “Mithali Raj manager” Anisha Gupta called Harmanpreet Kaur as manipulative, lying, immature and undeserving captain and alleged Indian team for believing in politics, not sports. She tweeted
Although a few hours later Anisha Gupta deleted her Twitter account and issued a clarification on the internet over her association with Mithali Raj as a manager and termed herself as a freelancer.
She issued the statement stating:
“I am a freelancer and I have only brought her a few commercial deals/brand endorsements and events. I do this for other athletes as well and, therefore, if any views are expressed by me, they’re my personal views in my private capacity,”
Recently during an interview with ESPN Cricinfo, she said,
“I would like to say that I don’t know what is going on inside, but now that the matches are being telecasted, we can see who is performing and who is not,”
“And we can see the kind of treatment that Mithali has received despite her brilliant performance and despite showing stability and consistency. The kind of treatment she has received is completely uncalled and there is something deeper that we need to look at.
There are statements coming out that they wanted to give younger cricketers a chance, but you don’t drop your senior most experienced players in the semifinals against a country like England. It goes beyond giving youngsters a chance.”
Mithali Raj & Harmanpreet Kaur controversy:- Going through the above statements, it is evident that Anisha Gupta has gone beyond lines to show her support to Mithali Raj. The question rise that how come Anisha Gupta knows such minute details about the team. How can you call Harmanpreet Kaur manipulative, lying, immature and undeserving captain without any concrete evidence?
Diana Edulji, a member of the Committee of Administrators (COA) and former Indian captain denied all the allegations and stood with the team management stating,
“I think too much is being made out of it. The management made the decision of not changing a winning combination and that backfired. We can’t be questioning the team eleven”.
After all heated fire discussion and allegations, the conclusion of the story is that BCCI officials called up Mithali Raj, Harmanpreet Kaur and manger Trupti Bhattacharya were called to record the viewpoints of all three separately.
Both Johri and Karim have already presented a full-fledged report to the COA. Fresh reasons are mushroomed to maintain truce between Mithali Raj and Harmanpreet Kaur and consolidate them like a juggernaut.
This is a peak period for Indian women’s cricket, one must not waste the opportunity.
