Why Arsenal are in danger after winning “cursed” FA Community Shield against Man City

2022/23 English Premier League runners-up Arsenal might have finally beaten Manchester City for an English title but the Gunners could also be in some serious trouble after winning FA Community Shield 2 days ago.

Mikel Arteta’s side after conceeding first in the game in 2nd half, found a way to equalize it before Penalties. It took the European champions 77 minutes to break the deadlock as U-21 UEFA Euro 2023 winner with England, Cole Palmer scored a worldie.

The youngster found the back of the net with an excellent left-footed finesse shot from the right wing area towards the far post of Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale. Man City tried to double and triple their lead but all of their efforts went in vain.

Ramsdale had a terrific day out unlike City goalie Stefan Ortega who had a very unlucky day. In the 100th minute of the match, Arsenal equalized with a corner taken by Bukayo Saka which was first headed away by John Stones before the former passed to Leandro Trossard.

The Belgian after receiving the ball on his right, would set up for a powerful left-foot bang which only went inside Stefan Ortega’s goal because of an unfortunate deflection from Manuel Akanji. And then of course were the Penalties where City looked Spiritless and utterly unlucky with the Gunners standing up for the occasion.

Why is FA Cup victory dangerous for Arsenal and good for City?

The Londoners won the tie by 4-1 and after the match their Goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale even put out that they can now go out and be favorites to beat Manchester City in the future. However, he is forgetting one thing that the last 3 Community Shield winners have won nothing in the season while the loser has won Premier League each time and it has always been Manchester City.

Back in 2019, when Man City won Community Shield versus Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp’s side went on to win Premier League. A year later, Arsenal won their 16th Community Shield and finished 8th. In 2021, Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City defeated Man City and finished 8th in PL.

Last season (in 2022/23) Liverpool won the Curtain raiser one-off match but failed to reach 2023/24’s UEFA Champions League. Klopp’s side actually did better than Leicester and earned a spot in the Europa League but what does the future of Arsenal hold especially in a season when they return to UCL for the first time since 2015/16.
