What is the highest team total by Bangladesh in the history of the T20 World Cup?
As the evolution of T20 cricket has progressed, the batting standards in the sport have been rising with each passing day. The batters have started to bat without any fear of getting out and just have one thing in mind: see the ball, hit the ball. The intent is clearly visible in modern-day T20 cricket, and as a result, the team totals have also started to get huge. Here we will discuss the highest ever team total by Bangladesh in the history of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
The highest team score of the Bangladesh cricket team in the format came against Papua New Guinea in the 2021 T20 World Cup, which was hosted by India in the UAE. In the 9th match of the tournament on October 21, 2021, the Bangladesh skipper won the toss and decided his team would bat first.
The start of the innings was brutal for Bangladesh, as Mohammad Naim got out on a duck on the second ball of the match. But then came Shakib Al Hasan, as he and Litton Das stood together and made a 50-run stand for the second wicket. Mushfiqur Rahim also got out cheaply, as Bangladesh’s score was 72/3 in 10.2 overs.
Then came Mahmadullah, as his fifty, along with Shakib’s handy knock of 46 runs, ensured Bangladesh were on the course of a big total. A few wickets fell in the death overs of the Bangladesh innings, but Mohammad Saifuddin’s 19 runs off just 6 balls provided the late impetus to the innings, which helped Bangladesh score 181/7 runs, their highest team total in the tournament’s history.
