The inaugural season of the World Test Championship final has been scheduled on June 18th, 2021 at Southampton this year between New Zealand and India.
And now, it is learned that travelers from India have been banned in UK after a surge in COVID-19 cases in India. But ICC has stated that WTC final will be held as planned.
An ICC spokesperson has stated that there will be no issue in conducting the final in UK as ECB has already demonstrated that how to conduct International matches safely and WTC final will be staged without any challenge.
“We are currently discussing with the UK Government the impact of countries being on the ‘red list’. The ECB and other Members have demonstrated how we can stage international cricket safely in the middle of a pandemic, and we are confident that we can continue to do that and that the World Test Championship Final will go ahead as planned in June in the UK,” said the spokesperson.
It will be the clash of titians that will take place between India and New Zealand as the both test playing nation has been in sublime form where Kiwis have won all their last six matches on the other hand boys in blue have won five out seven matches that they played in the longest format of the game.
The last time India and New Zealand faced off against each other was in February 2020 at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch. In that encounter, the New Zealand side walloped Virat Kohli and his men by 7 wickets, and the match ended within 3 days.
