North-Indian IPL outfit, Delhi Capitals finally registered their first victory of the season after a wait of 5 matches. DC welcomed 2-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in a slower surface. The fixture was also under scrutiny as rain had delayed the starting of the match before Delhi defeated Kolkata in the final over.
After winning the toss, David Warner asked KKR to bat first. Nitish Rana’s side did not get off to a good start as they were 70/6 within the 11th over. Their English opener Jason Roy and Bangladeshi wicket-keeper batsman Liton Das were making their debut for KKR and it was not the start they had expected.
While Roy was able to score a 39 ball 43, Liton Das departed for just 4 runs. It was only because of All-Rounder Andre Russell’s efforts (38 off 31) that KKR reached 127. But if we look at Russell’s innings, then his performance was way below his capability.
He struggled a lot in the Delhi pitch and his strike rate of 122 last night is enough to tell you the story. DC’s bowling unit were spot on in terms of picking wickets by giving away lesser runs. Pacer Mukesh Kumar was the only bowler to concede 34 runs, whereas other bowlers did not leak more than 25 runs.
The main highlight came in the 19th over when Warner handed Kuldeep Yadav his 3rd over. The China-man gave away just 3 runs and Andre Russell evidently struggled against him. In the 5th ball, Yadav surprised every spectator and commentator when he bowled a 117 KPH ball after bowling at a speed of 80.
It also took Andre Russell by a surprise who was under pressure to go for a big shot and he did so in the following over but fans on social media have been buzzing on Kuldeep Yadav’s bowling speed. Here are some of the best fan reactions –
