Watch : Manchester United Midfielder Casemiro get sent off for this challenge! The Brazilian will now miss United’s next 4 games!
After being dismissed in the opening period of Sunday’s Premier League encounter between Manchester United and Southampton at Old Trafford, midfielder Casemiro will miss four games.
With 34 minutes remaining, a VAR review led to the Brazilian’s dismissal. He had previously played for Real Madrid before joining the Reds last summer. Anthony Taylor, the referee, gave him his first warning for a strong tackle on Carlos Alcaraz of the Saints.

Taylor was however compelled by VAR to examine the choice and cross to the pitchside monitor. After careful consideration, the veteran official decided to dismiss Casemiro, who had played just three Premier League games prior.

The 31-year-old was given his marching orders during last month’s 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace and was consequently banned for the subsequent matches against Leeds United and the 3-0 triumph over Leicester City. It wasn’t until last weekend’s 7-0 loss to Liverpool at Anfield that he made his league comeback.

Casemiro will now serve a four-match suspension across all domestic games, beginning with next Sunday’s FA Cup quarterfinal at home against Fulham, unless United decides to appeal the ruling and is successful in doing so. Additionally, he will miss the matches in the Premier League that take place against Everton, Brentford, and Newcastle United right after the forthcoming international break.
Humanly incredible. Look at this reaction to Casemiro red card. From player, teammates and opponents. The kind of emotions a dismissal rarely conjures 😭 pic.twitter.com/sOjhHzuF9R

“Well, what I think is the inconsistency means players don’t know any more what is the policy,” the United boss said on Casemiro’s sending off in his post-match press conference. I think it’s all across. I mean, you see yesterday, Leicester-Chelsea, then VAR is not coming on the line. Today it’s coming on the line and then it’s two penalty situations, but they don’t come on the line.” – said Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag.
As a result Casemiro will now miss the following games –
- Fulham (h) – March 19, FA Cup
- Newcastle (a) – April 2, Premier League
- Brentford (h) – April 5, Premier League
- Everton (h) – April 8, Premier League
