Watch: KL Rahul confirms his exclusion from WTC Final and IPL 2023 due to injury

KL Rahul, the captain of the Lucknow Super Giants and an Indian batsman, has withdrawn from the balance of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) season as well as the ICC World Test Championship final against Australia. On May 1 (Monday), Rahul was hurt while playing against Royal Challengers Bangalore. He will now have surgery on his thighs. Rahul provided a detailed Instagram post to confirm the news. In his absence, Krunal Pandya will assume leadership of the Lucknow franchise, just like he did in the team’s most recent game against Chennai Super Kings.

KL Rahul posted on Instagram with the following message: “I’ll soon be having surgery on my thigh. This has been decided after serious thought and discussions with the medical team. In the upcoming weeks, I’ll be concentrating on my recuperation and rehabilitation. Although it’s a difficult decision, I know it must be made to guarantee a full recovery.

It hurts me terribly that I can’t be there at this critical time in my role as team captain. But I have faith that the boys will rise to the challenge and deliver their best work as usual. Every game, I’ll be watching alongside all of you and supporting them from the stands. @lucknowsupergiants

I’m really devastated that Team India won’t be at the Oval in a month. I’ll use every effort to rejoin the blue and serve my nation. That has always been my main priority and focus. @indiancricketteam

I want to convey my appreciation to each of you: my supporters, who gave me the motivation to stand up again; the management of LSG and the BCCI for acting quickly; and my teammates, for their steadfast support during this difficult period.”

Rahul wrote and informed with this message, conveying that he would undergo surgery on his thigh and would concentrate on recovering as quickly as possible.

Rahul’s injury significantly reduces Lucknow’s hopes of making the postseason this year. With 5 wins, 4 losses, and 1 NR in 10 games, the team is now ranked second in the points table.
