Smriti Mandhana, the vice captain of the Indian women’s cricket team, attracted all the attention on Monday after being the most expensive player purchased at the Women’s Premier League player auction. Mandhana was signed by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for a staggering sum of Rs. 3.4 crores in a match that took place in Mumbai. In addition to this, RCB broke the bank by paying 1.7 crores to acquire Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry. Some fans did not hesitate to convert the auctions for the WPL’s inaugural season into a meme fest because they turned out to be a historic event.
