Watch: Ex KKR Star's Honest Take On Kohli-Gambhir Spat

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match between the Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore included a notorious altercation between two of the greatest players in Indian cricket history, Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir. Gambhir and Kohli had a nasty fight on the pitch following RCB’s victory, which resulted in the two of them receiving a large fine.

Manoj Tiwary, a former batter for the Kolkata Knight Riders, has called on the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to intervene and look into the incident’s underlying causes as comments to the two cricket players continue to pour in.

In a discussion on Cricbuzz, Tiwary emphasised the negative impact such an occurrence has on fans, particularly young ones. The Bengali cricketer prefers that Gambhir and Kohli be remembered for what they accomplished for India on the pitch rather than for their ‘aggression’.

In a panel discussion with Murali Kartik, Tiwary said, “Don’t know if I should say this or not, Ben Stokes would’ve gotten a lot of hiccups.” These two were formerly well-known celebs elsewhere. In actuality, one of them is still a significant global player.

“BCCI ought to intervene. Being an ambassador for the game, you shouldn’t put on such a distasteful display like this. IPL is one of the most watched sporting events in the world, especially among young people. Many teenagers aspire to be like Virat Kohli. Therefore, identifying the underlying causes of conflicts like these is crucial. Sport benefits from healthy competition, but not from situations like these, Tiwary remarked.
