With a 2-1 victory over Fulham on Sunday, Manchester City reclaimed the Premier League’s top spot for the very first occasion since February as Erling Haaland achieved yet another set of milestones. In his remarkable debut season in England, Haaland scored his record-tying 34th Premier League goal in under three minutes by converting a penalty.
With that, he equaled Andy Cole and Alan Shearer’s Premier League single-season scoring milestone. The Norwegian also made history by being the very first player in England’s top division ever since Tom Waring for Aston Villa in 1931 to score 50 goals in all competitions in a season.

Carlos Vinicius’ bullet past Ederson in the 15th minute gave City a setback, but they bounced back to create a string of opportunities. When Argentine forward Julian Alvarez unleashed some kind of wizardry to stun Bernd Leno by hitting a right-footed drive from outside the box, Jack Grealish got stopped by the crossbar.

Despite numerous opportunities and nervous moments, City failed to extend their lead after the interval, but they managed to hold on for their eighth straight league victory.

With one more game remaining, they have 76 points against Arsenal’s 75, moving them into first place. After crushing Arsenal 4-1 on Wednesday, City entered the game at Craven Cottage just two points behind Arsenal in the race for a fifth English championship in six years under Pep Guardiola.

However, they quickly took the lead after Alvarez was brought down in the area by Fulham captain Tim Ream, giving Haaland the chance to draw level with Cole and Shearer by not giving Leno no chance with his left-footed penalty.
Shortly in the second half, Leno stopped Haaland from scoring an a record-setting goal, and Alvarez was also stopped.
When Ederson snatched the ball out of Vinicius’ feet as the striker appeared to be heading for a Fulham equaliser, City experienced some uneasy moments.
However, City succesfully managed to hold down Fulham forwards as Guardiola’s men defended deep and strongly. 3 days later City will take on West Ham United in their next Premier League fixture at the Etihad Stadium.
