A cricketer with an unconventional technique but an immense amount of self-confidence, Virender Sehwag went onto become one of the greatest opening batsmen ever to play for India.

Hailing from a small district of Haryana, Virender Sehwag was born on 20th October 1978. Brought up in a joint-family, Virender Sehwag spent his childhood with a bunch of people around him. 

Virender Sehwag’s father, Krishnan Sehwag was a grain merchant. Virender Sehwag’s mother, Krishna Sehwag, was a homemaker. Sehwag was the third child in the family. He has two elder sisters, named Manju and Anju and one younger brother, Vinod.

Not many are aware of this but Virender Sehwag and his wife, Aarti Ahlawat Sehwag, know each other since a very long time. They both first met each other at a marriage. Sehwag’s cousin got married to a girl who was Aarti Ahlawat’s aunt. But at that time, he was only seven and Aarti was five. 

Gradually, they became good friends and both start spending quality time together. As time went by, Sehwag started developing feelings for Aarti and vice-versa. After spending knowing each other for fourteen years, Sehwag at 21, proposed her, to which, Aarti said that.

“I still remember when he bought me a cute little teddy carrying a heart… He is a very simple man, down to earth and extremely understanding. The best part about him is that he is a very committed person.” Aarti Ahlawat about her husband Virender Sehwag 

After dating for three years, both of them decided to get married and revealed their relationship to their parents for the very time. Clueless about their relationship, parents were against of their marriage initially but later agreed for the same.  

The duo tied the knot on 22nd April 2004. The wedding took place at Arun Jaitley’s home. It was a completely private affair as no media person was allowed to enter inside the place.  

The Nawab wore a designer Achkan at the wedding, while his wife donned a pink lehenga. This was followed by a grand reception at a five-star hotel in Delhi.

The couple got blessed with their first child in 2007 and named him Aryavir. He was born on 18th October 2007, two days before his father’s birthday. 

In 2010, they got blessed with another son, Vedant. Sehwag has been spending quality time with his family after retiring from international cricket and is living his life to the fullest.

1. Virender Sehwag loves to eat Kheer and that too homemade Kheer. 
2. Virender Sehwag is the only skipper to have scored a double hundred in ODIs. In the absence of MS Dhoni, Virender Sehwag was leading the side when struck a double-hundred. 
3. Virender Sehwag hit the fastest triple century in 2008 against South Africa. He reached the feat in just 278 balls. 
4. He is one of the few Indian cricketers who have hit a century in his maiden first-class innings and maiden Test innings. 
5. Virender Sehwag’s marriage took place at Arun Jaitley’s house. It was a completely private affair as no media person was allowed to enter the place. 
6. Virender Sehwag was conferred with the Padma Shri Award in 2010 for his immense contribution in the field of sports.
