The IPL is synonymous with fire packed-hitting and engaging and high-stake auctions, but its history is also marked by a string of controversies. From match-fixing scandals to fiery player clashes, the drama seems to be an uninvited but an incessant companion of the league.

The top 3 hot-headed clashes of IPL 2024 were:

1. Hardik Pandya’s PDD – Ever since Pandya rejoined the MI squad as a captain, his performance and captaincy style has been under constant scrutiny. His return certainly did not go as planned. The unexpected negativity clashed with MI’s poor start into the season. Pandya’s individual performance also remained a concern throughout. This tumultuous edition concluded with Mumbai finishing last for only the second time in three years, leaving the MI management with several questions to address regarding Pandya’s approach to captaincy and the overall fan sentiment. The public display of disappointment (PDD) and booing by the crowd in the team’s home stadium definitely marked an infamous moment in IPL history.

2. Sanjiv Goenka’s Fire – The affluent owner of the newly formed team Lucknow Super Giants, faced harsh criticism from all corners of the internet after a video captured him apparently reprimanding the then LSG Captain KL Rahul, following the team’s dreaded loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad. The viral video showed a visibly expressive and upset Goenka conversing with a composed Rahul after the match. This public communication stirred a major controversy as the fans vented out their displeasure towards Goenka, and many of them were quick to comment that such discussions should be held in closed quarters to maintain the team’s dignity and respect for the captain’s wisdom.

3. King Kohli’s Wrath – Virat Kohli’s dismissal against the RCB v/s KKR match became a major talking point back then. He was dismissed for mere 18 runs, while Kohli believed the delivery from Harshit Rana was a no-ball due to its height. The newly introduced IPL Hawk-Eye technology for no-balls considers the ball’s intricacies if it is played from the accurate position on the crease.

Virat was indeed out as per the official rule book. The rule states that for a delivery to be considered a no ball, the ball must be at waist height as it crosses the stepping crease.

The third umpire ruled the delivery as fair, using this technology. Despite the reasoning, Kohli openly contested the decision, with footage capturing his heated argument with the umpire went viral. Apart from these, there were many other cringe-worthy and nail-biting moments, that captured the attention of spectators and made the season a memorable one. From players taking a break to restore their mental health, to umpiring decisions coming under the radar – the 17^th edition juggled up quite a few eyeballs popping dramatic moments.
