Highest Wicket Takers in CPL
Quite often when people talk about T20 cricket, they mostly regard it as a game largely been dominated by the batsmen. Well, we cannot really blame them for this as the format has been designed in such a manner that it provides a more conducive environment for the batsman rather than the bowlers. While it offers small boundaries to give batsman with an extra advantage, the flat tracks alongside take away all the remaining advantages from the bowlers most of the time.
Still, there are those bowlers who have made their mark in the T20 cricket over the past few years even while going along with all the above-mentioned drawbacks and we can only thank their capabilities in T20 cricket along with remarkable skills which have made them shine in a batsman supportive format. In the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), there have been a large number of great bowlers who have achieved several records over the years.
While we talked about all those bowlers, let’s take a look at the list of top 5 highest wicket-takers in the CPL history:
List of Top 5 Highest Wicket Takers in CPL:
1) Dwayne Bravo (97 Wickets)
Dwayne Bravo is a Trinidadian cricketer. Bravo played for Trinbago Knight Riders in Caribbean Premier League. A genuine all-rounder, Dwayne Bravo bats right-handed and bowls right-arm medium-fast pace. Dwayne is known for his hostile batting in the middle order, and for his death bowling. Dwayne Bravo is currently the highest wicket-taker in CPL history, with 97 wickets from 69 games and is placed at the top position in the top 5 highest wicket-takers in the CPL. Dwyane Bravo took 97 wickets in 239.2 over’s in a total of 69 matches and at an average of 21.52 with an economy rate of 8.72.
His best bowling in an innings was recorded as 5/23. He has four 4 wicket-hauls and one five-wicket in his CPL career. In 2013, Bravo topped the Trinbago Knight Riders bowling charts with ten wickets to his name. In 2015, Bravo again showed his bowling performance and topped the league wicket-takers charts by 12 wickets. In 2016, Dwyane was the top wicket-taker and top the tournament charts with 21 wickets and in 2017, he finished second on the CPL charts with 16 wickets. Unfortunately, last year Dwayne Bravo has been ruled out of the Caribbean Premier League with a finger injury.
2) Krishmar Santokie (80 Wickets)
While Bravo has topped the CPL wickets tally, we have Krishmar Santokie, the Jamaica Tallawahs’s famous left-arm medium-pace bowler at the no. 2 spot in the highest wicket-takers list in CPL history. Santokie, who has had an amazing domestic Career, Krishmar has taken 80 wickets in his CPL so far. Quite interestingly, Krishmar has scalped 4 wicket-hauls twice in his CPL career.
Krishmar Santokie is a Jamaica cricketer, who represents in West Indies Twenty20 national team as a left-arm medium-pace bowler. He played for different teams in the CPL like Guyana Amazon Warriors, Jamaica Tallawahs and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots.
He took a total of 80 wickets in 55 matches in 210.4 overs at an average of 20.0 and economy of 7.59. His best bowling in an innings was 4/11.
3) Rayad Emrit (73 Wickets)
Rayad Emrit is a Trinidad and Tobago cricketer, who represented West Indies national team as a right-handed fast-medium bowler and right-handed batsman. He bowls medium-pace with subtle variations that make it difficult for the batsmen for any opportunity to free their arms and also has the capacity to hit big shots that make him an effective middle-order batsman.
He played for Barbados Tridents and Guyana Amazon Warriors in the CPL. In July 2020, he was named in St Kitts & Nevis Patriots squad for the 2020 Caribbean Premier League.
Rayad Emrit is placed at the third spot in the list of the top 5 wicket-takers in the CPL. He took 73 wickets in a total of 64 innings in 64 matches at an Average and Economy Rate of 22 and 7.72. His best bowling in an innings was 4/35. He has taken 5 wickets-hauls in his CPL career.
4) Sunil Narine (65 Wickets)
Sunil Narine is a Trinidadian cricketer, who represents the West Indies national team as a right-arm off-break bowler. He played for Guyana Amazon Warriors and Trinibago Knight Riders in the Caribbean League. In July 2020, Sunil Narine was named in the Trinbago Knight Riders team squad for the edition of Caribbean Premier League 2020.
In the Caribbean Premier League, he is amongst the top five players with the most appearances in the league’s history. Sunil Narine is placed at the fourth place in the list of the top 5 most wicket-takers in the CPL. Narine has fourth-most wickets in the Caribbean Premier League with 65 wickets in 54 matches in 199.3 over’s at an average of 21.20 and economy rate of 6.69.
In the Caribbean Premier League, Sunil Narine is amongst the top five players with the most appearances in the league’s history. His best achievement though in the CPL came in the 2014 season, when Sunil Narine was playing for Guyana Amazon Warriors against Trinbago Knight Riders. He also became the first and only bowler till date to bowl a maiden in a Super Over in a T20 match.
5) Sohail Tanvir (63 Wickets)
Sohail Tanvir is a Pakistani bowler, who represents his national team as a bowling all-rounder. Sohail is a left-arm medium-fast bowler.
Tanvir has played for Guyana Amazon Warriors, St Kitts, and Nevis Patriots and St Lucia Zouks teams in his CPL career.
Tanvir is the fifth bowler in CPL history with the most number of wickets. He took 63 wickets in 54 matches at an average of 21.20 and an economy rate of 5.49. He has taken 4 wicket-haul once and five-wicket haul once in his CPL career. Sohail’s 3/6 is his best bowling figure in CPL history.
