Top 5 Players with Most Runs at the Dharamshala Cricket Stadium in IPL History

Punjab Kings (PBKS) started off their IPL 2025 campaign with a win against Gujarat Tians by 11 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. They ended up winning six matches and lost three out of the ten fixtures played so far, before reaching to Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, which represents their second home ground.

PBKS has played four of their seven home matches in IPL 2025 at the newly constructed Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur in Punjab. Three of their remaining home matches will be played at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamshala, which are slated to be held in this ongoing IPL 2025 season. HPCA stadium in Dharamshala has a capacity of around 21000 spectators and is more favorable for the fast bowlers due to the nature of the pitch to provide a good bounce. However, with certain amount of due as a factor, the ground also favours the batters occasionally. The HPCA Stadium has hosted a total of 13 matches since the origin of IPL as a cash-rich league, with the team batting first winning eight times, while the team batting second coming out victorious on just five occasions. The first-ever IPL match on this ground was played between Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) and Deccan Chargers (now defunct) on 16th April 2010.

Since 2010, the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala has been a popular venue for IPL games, thanks to its pristine beauty and stunning backdrop at a high altitude. The stadium has served as host to some of the most exciting games in IPL history. The average score at this ground is around 165-170 runs approximately. This demonstrates that the pitch at this location is generally balanced, giving both batters and bowlers an equal opportunity to perform effectively. Adam Gilchrist and Shaun Marsh had created history with their incredible partnership against Royal Challengers Bangalore during one of the league stage matches during their tenure, which remains the highest partnership recorded at the HPCA Stadium in IPL till date. The highest innings total has been 232 runs, scored by Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) against Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2011; while the lowest innings total was scored by Kings XI Punjab in 2011 when they were bowled out for just 116 runs by Deccan Chargers. Amongst the list of record- holders, the all-time leading wicket-taker at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala in the IPL is Piyush Chawla, who has taken 13 wickets so far.

5) Rilee Rossouw – The fifth position has been bagged by a batsman from South Africa, Rilee Rossouw. This stylish top-order player is famous for his authoritative hits.  Rilee has been a high-impact batter for his team in the limited-overs cricket and created an impact from his innings. From just three innings that he has batted here, Rilee has scored 143 runs until now. He has scored two fifties from just 3 match appearances and shown striking figures of 71.5 as batting average and 213 as the strike rate at the Dharamshala ground. Rossouw’s highest individual score of 82 came during his stint with the Kings XI Punjab and has played for the Delhi Capitals too.

4) David Warner – The former SRH and DC captain, David Warner bags the fourth position in the list of top run scorers. As a key player for the teams that he has been a part of, he has won them many games, all because of his superb batting ability and perfect timing. His strike rate on the Dharamshala ground has been around 146 and batting average of almost 38.5. His highest individual figure on this ground was the 79 against Punjab in IPL 2012, as a part of the Delhi team. Am exceptional IPL batsman known for his aggressive style, this former Australian opener has been a master of chasing and often turning matches in his team’s favour with his presence of mind and brilliance. Warner has scored on half-century in the four innings played here and made a total of 154 runs from them.

3) Mahela Jayawardene – The next name in the decreasing order is of a former Sri Lankan legend, Mahela Jayawardene. He has enjoyed a reputation for exceptional batting ability, particularly in the white-ball format of the game. He has been a master of the sport, known for his deep patience and ability to build solid partnerships. His flawless technique and elegant strokes made him play for Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings previously. Currently, he is the head coach of Mumbai Indians for the IPL 2025 season. Mahela has scored a record 161 runs from the 4 matches that he has played here. In the four innings that he batted in, he has hit 01 half-century, and the highest score has been an unbeaten 93 during one of the matches. Jayawardene has had a strike rate of almost 132 and an average of 53.6 on the Dharamshala ground, which is absolutely commendable.

2) Adam Gilchrist – The second highest run scorer at this stunning stadium amidst the mountain ranges has been another stalwart of cricket, Adam Gilchrist. The Australian batsman led Deccan Chargers to their maiden IPL title in 2009 and later even captained the Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) and was highly successful in his role. Gilchrist’s contributions to the IPL were significant, both as a batsman and a leader. He was known for his positive rapport with team-mates and had the ability to inspire younger players. Though he had scored plenty of runs in his IPL tenure, at the Dharamshala stadium he has scored 295 runs and continues to be on the second position even now. Gilchrist has smashed two fifties and one century from eight innings totally. His individual high score is 106 and has a strike rate of over 149.

1) Shaun Marsh – The topmost place has been bagged by an elegant left-hander from Australia, and Gilchrist’s fellow companion from Kings XI Punjab, Shaun Marsh. His IPL career has been a celebrated one, having amassed more than 2400 runs throughout his time period. As an opener for the Punjab side, Marsh scored the most runs in the league stage of the inaugural IPL 2008 edition and was the orange cap holder as well that year. As far as the Dharamshala Cricket stadium is concerned, Shaun Marsh is the flag bearer with a total of 334 runs scored from just 7 innings altogether. He has had a strike rate of 142 and an average of over 66, which is outstanding. On this ground, Marsh has smashed three half-centuries, and his personal best score has been 88 runs, from the knock against CSK in 2010.
