Since the establishment of the Indian Premier League [IPL] in 2008, the Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals have competed against one another. They have always been on par with one another, so much so that two IPL super over matches—one in 2009 and one in 2014—were developed as a result. However, both franchises hold very rich records when it comes to overall performance. The Knight Riders have won the IPL trophy two times whereas Rajasthan has only one but the very first trophy of the Indian Premier League to its name. Following are some close encounters between two massive franchises.
1. RR vs KKR, 2013
In the ninetieth match of the cash-rich league in the 2013 season, Royals batted first, and with the help of Brad Hodge’s 46 crucial runs, Rajasthan made it to 144 which was thought to be easily overtaken by the Knight Riders. However, despite taking the match in 2nd last over of the game, KKR lost the match to RR by the margin of mere 19 runs.
2. RR vs KKR, 2014
The second close encounter between KKR and RR came in the 7th edition of the prominent league in which RR gave a 170-run defendable target to KKR while batting first. There came a situation when everybody thought that the RR would easily chase the target, however, the Knight Riders almost reached there in 20 overs but lost the match by the margin of mere 10 runs to the RR.
3. RR vs KKR, 2015
In the 54th match of the 2015 season, Rajasthan posted a massive target of 199 runs against Knight Riders with Shane Watson amassing an unbeaten 104 runs. The game initially looked one-sided but when KKR went down to chase, it seemed to easily achieve. However, despite reaching very close to winning, Knight Riders succumbed to RR by mere 9 runs in the 20th over.
4. RR vs KKR, 2019
In the 43rd match of the 2019 season of the most prominent league, KKR batted first and posted 175 runs on board with Dinesh Karthik amassing 97 runs. However, Kathik’s 97-run inning went in vain as Rajasthan turned the match in its favor in the last over of the match with the loss of 7 wickets.
5. RR vs KKR, 2022
In the 30th match of the 15th edition of the IPL, with the solid ton of Jos Buttler Rajasthan posted a whopping 217 run target to be chased by Knight Riders.
