‘This will never happen again’… BCCI gave a strict statement regarding players leaving IPL midway

England players in IPL 2024

IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal has given a big reaction to the England players leaving IPL 2024 midway. He has said that it was already discussed with the England Board that their players would be available for the entire season but they left midway and went back. However, this will never happen again in the future.

In fact, even before the IPL playoff matches started, all the players of England went back to their country. The reason for this was that England had to play a four-match T20 series against Pakistan from May 22 and that is why they had called back all their players playing in the IPL. Players like Phil Salt, Jos Buttler, Will Jacks, Sam Curran and Liam Livingstone withdrew without playing the entire season.

Among England players, KKR and Rajasthan Royals were most affected by the postponement of the season, because two players of these teams, Phil Salt and Jos Buttler, were in excellent form. RCB also suffered a loss due to the departure of Will Jacques, because he was also playing very well.

This happened due to change in ECB management – Arun Dhumal

Arun Dhumal revealed that the England Cricket Board had told the BCCI that the English players would be available for the entire season. However, his management changed in between and due to this he could not fulfill his promise.

Regarding this, Arun Dhumal said while talking to Sportstar,

We were told that England players will be available for the entire tournament. It is quite unfortunate that in this way their players withdrew in the middle of the season. We had a very good conversation with the England board and hopefully this will not happen again in the future. The people who made this promise to us are no longer part of the ECB. However, even if there has been a change in the management, things should have happened as per the instructions.

T20 World Cup is to be held right after IPL 2024. The teams are also focused on its preparation. For this reason, England players left the IPL and returned to their country. England won the T20 World Cup title in 2022. Before the tournament to be held from June 1, England also has to play a T20 series against Pakistan. This is the reason why the English Cricket Board has ordered its players to return.
