Tymal Mills produced a superb bowling performance to help Southern Brave to a six-wicket victory over Manchester Originals in the The Hundred Men’s Competition 2023 on Thursday. Mills took three wickets for 27 runs in his 20-ball spell, including the key scalp of Phil Salt, as the Originals were restricted to 130-8 after being put in to bat at the Manchester.
The Originals were on course for a decent total after Buttler and Wayne Madsen got them off to a good start. Buttler made 45 from 42 balls, while Madsen scored 22 before he was caught by Tymal Mills off the bowling of Colin Ackermann.
However, Mills then came into the attack and turned the match on its head. He dismissed Phil Salt, Jamie Overton and Tom Hartley in his 20-ball magical spell to leave the Originals in trouble at 126-7. Jos Buttler and Paul Walter tried to rebuild the innings, but they were both dismissed by Rehan Ahmed as the Originals were restricted to a below-par total.
The Brave got off to a slow start in their chase, but Conway and James Vince put on a 67-run partnership to get them on track. Conway eventually reached his fifty from 38 balls and he went on to score an unbeaten 54 to lead the Brave to victory with five balls to spare.
The win was a significant one for the Brave, as it secured their place in the top three and set them up for a rematch with the Originals in the eliminator. The Originals will need to improve their batting if they are to overcome the Brave and reach the final.
Mills’s bowling was the key to the Brave’s victory. He was able to extract good pace and movement from the pitch, and he was particularly effective in the death overs. His three wickets were all important scalps, and they helped to turn the match in the Brave’s favor.
Conway’s unbeaten 54 was also a crucial innings. He batted with maturity and composure, and he never looked flustered. He was able to find the gaps in the field and he hit some powerful shots, and he was the difference between the two teams.
The Brave will be confident of their chances in the eliminator. They have a good balance of batting and bowling, and they have the momentum after this victory. The Originals will need to play their best cricket if they are to overcome the Brave and reach the final.
