Ashes

The Ashes 5th Test Match: England lead by 377 runs

The 5th Test match of the Ashes seems to be in the favour of England till now. The first innings was certainly a low scoring one. However, the second time England came out to bat, they did a phenomenal job. Till now by scoring 389-9 they are leading by 377 runs. They have only one wicket in hand, but if they give a lead of 400 runs, then they can certainly ball out the Australian team in a period of almost 2 days. On the other hand, the Australian team must be having a plan to restrict the lead by the English team within 400 runs. In that manner, they are going to have a much better chance to win the Test match.

Race for series draw or series win

It is certainly a race for the title of series draw or series win. That is because Australia cannot lose the series, and England cannot win the series. This peculiar situation is certainly making this series very exciting.

  • In the first innings England were able to put up only 283 runs on the board. To the Australian batters it looked really easy to pass that. But English bowlers didn’t let them do so.
  • Australian batters were able to score only 295 runs. That was certainly a score that was not good enough. They had a chance to take the advantage of the first inning low total of England. Only Steve Smith was able to fight back with 71 runs.
  • England knew that the second inning was the only chance they had to put up a fine total. So, they took the complete advantage of that situation, and till now they have added the lead of 377 runs.

Now it is going to be very impressive to see if the Australian team will be able to chase the target of close to 400. For Australia it is a matter of victory, and for England it is a matter of pride.
