T20 World Cup: India faced humiliating defeat against New Zealand, Harmanpreet Kaur gives reason

Team India had to face a humiliating 58-run defeat at the hands of New Zealand in the very first match of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. The atmosphere is heated due to India’s defeat in the very first match. Meanwhile, Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur has vented her anger fiercely after the crushing defeat against New Zealand on Friday.

Chasing the target of 161 runs, the Indian team was reduced to 102 runs in 19 overs. Not a single player could score 20 runs. After the match, Harmanpreet said, ‘We did not play our best cricket. Moving forward we know that every match is important.”

She disagreed that the target of 161 runs was difficult on a slow pitch. She said, “We have chased the target of 160-170 runs many times. We were hoping to make it. We knew that someone would have to bat, but we kept losing wickets continuously.”

The Indian team will now face Pakistan on Sunday and Harmanpreet feels that her team will register victory against their arch-rival. She said, “We know that this group is capable of doing better. This was not the start we were expecting, but we have to move forward from here.”

Meanwhile, New Zealand captain Sophie Devine, who was the ‘Player of the Match’, said, “I am really proud of this team. People are talking about our recent results, but playing against a world-class team like India and performing like this, I am happy.”

New Zealand crushed India
