Early Life

Varun Tomar, originally from Garhi Kangran village in Baghpat district, Uttar Pradesh, was motivated to pursue a career in shooting by his cousin, Olympian Saurabh Chaudhary, in 2017. Tomar’s brother was a sports lover since the beginning and also wanted his brother to make a career in sports.

He began his athletic career in Benoli village, where he was coached by Amit Sheoran, who will now be Varun’s teammate in the Indian shooting contingent that will travel to Paris. Following his outstanding performance and World Cup medals in 2023, he was chosen for the National Centre of Excellence and currently trains at the Karni Singh Ranges in New Delhi.

He joined the Indian Army and became a member of the elite Army Marksmanship Unit. Currently, he is under the supervision of National Rifle Instructor Deepak Dubey, improving his abilities and looking for more success on the shooting range.

Shooting Career

Tomar’s shooting exploits demonstrate his talent and perseverance. He won gold medals in both the Air Pistol team and individual events at the Asian Olympic Qualifier in Jakarta, demonstrating his abilities even more. His success continued in 2022, when he won the gold medal in the Air Pistol Junior men’s team event and the bronze in the individual event at the World Championship in Cairo.

The next year, he demonstrated his extraordinary abilities by winning gold, silver, and bronze medals in the 10m air pistol events at the Cairo and Bhopal World Cup tournaments. He also competed in the Baku World Cup, proving his consistency and dedication on the international level.
