Playing role and style
Boland is a right-arm fast-medium bowler and a right-hand batter who bats in the lower order. He is known for bowling a tight line and length and for taking wickets on pitches that help the seam bowlers.
Teams
Boland has played for Australia and for Victoria in domestic cricket since the 2011-12 season. In the Big Bash League he has played for Melbourne Stars (2013-14 to 2018-19, and again from 2023-24) and Hobart Hurricanes (2019-20 to 2021-22). He played for Rising Pune Supergiant in 2016 and for Durham in English county cricket in 2024.
International career
Boland made his ODI debut against India on 12 January 2016 and his T20 International debut against India on 29 January 2016. His Test career began almost six years later, at the 2021 Boxing Day Test.
He played the last three Tests of the 2021-22 Ashes and took 18 wickets at an average of 9.55. In the 2023 World Test Championship final at The Oval he took 2 for 59 and 3 for 46, and Australia won.
In the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy he took 21 wickets in six innings at an average of 13.02. In Sydney he took 6 for 45 in India's second innings, his first ten-wicket match in Tests, and was named player of the match.
Test hat-trick in 2025
On 14 July 2025 at Sabina Park in Jamaica, Boland took a hat-trick against the West Indies, dismissing Greaves, Joseph and Warrican in successive balls. He finished with 3 for 2 in two overs as the West Indies were bowled out for 27. He is the 10th Australian to take a Test hat-trick and the first Indigenous Australian to do so.
Ashes 2025-26
Boland was part of Australia's squad for the 2025-26 Ashes at home, which Australia won 4-1. He took 20 wickets in the series and became the fastest bowler by balls to take 50 Test wickets in Australia.
