San Francisco Unicorns announce Shane Watson as head coach ahead of inaugural MLC edition

Former Aussie All-rounder and 3-time ICC World cup winner Shane Watson has come on board for San Francisco Unicorns ahead of MLC 2023. He will be taking over as the head coach of the Unicorns for the inaugural edition of Major League Cricket which starts from July 13th.

This is for the first time that a franchise Cricketing league is taking place in the United States of America. Although Minor Cricket League happens every year but it hasn’t gained much popularity. However, MLC can shape-shift the cricketing graph in the country. 

The inaugural edition will feature only 6 teams and it will be 17-day tournament as the Finale will be played on July 30. Some huge names of world cricket will grace the tournament and the legendary Shane Watson will also try to make his presence felt.

He will be the head coach of the California based outfit which is owned Anand Rajaraman and Venky Harinarayan. The San Francisco Unicorns took to Twitter yesterday to announce the signing of Watson.

“Coach Watto.  A cricketing icon with a championship DNA, @ShaneRWatson33 will be at the helm as our Head Coach. Let’s give him a #SparkleArmy welcome.” 

Shane Watson has a good squad to work with!

If we talk about San Francisco Unicorns’ team then Shane Watson has an extremely talented squad to work with. The Captain of the team is Watson’s countryman and a T20 World cup winning captain Aaron Finch. There is another Aussie in the form of the “Big” Marcus Stoinis who has been in terrific form.

Moreover, the San Francisco Unicorns also drafted former England bowler Liam Plunkett and Kiwi All-rounder Corey Anderson. Chaitanya Bishnoi, Tajinder Singh, Brody Couch, Sanjay Krishnamurti, Smit Patel, Carmi Leroux and David White are the other recruits of the team.

San Francisco will start their MLC campaign on July 15th against MI New York at the Grand Prairie stadium.
