La Liga giants and current league leaders Real Madrid on Tuesday presented star India opener Rohit Sharma with a customised jersey which they shared on their social media platforms.

The Indian limited-overs vice-captain did not only witness Real Madrid defeat FC Barcelona 2-0 in the El Clasico in Madrid on Sunday night, but the Mumbai Indians skipper also had a good time in the Spanish capital.

Rohit who is La Liga’s brand ambassador in India went on a city tour where he visited Palacio Real, also called Royal Palace, Chocolateria San Gines, which serves chocolate con churros (hot chocolate and churros) since 1894, and Plaza Mayor.

Later on, he witnessed the excitement of the El Clasico from the stands. He enjoyed the passion of football together with 81,000 spectators at the Bernabeu.

Rohit had earlier said that he is an ardent Real Madrid supporter and thus he victory of Zinedine Zidane‘s men would have definitely made him happy, more so because Real moved back to the top of the La Liga table.

Brazilian teenager Vinicius Junior scored the opener in the 71st minute with substitute Mariano adding a second in added time.

Rohit also met some of the legends of the game at the El Clasico party on Sunday and tweeted the same in his twitter handle.

“It was nice to meet some of the legends of the game at the #ElClasico party,” his tweet said.

Rohit missed India’s Test series against New Zealand due to a calf injury he suffered during the fifth T20I of the tour at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui. India lost the two-Test series 0-2.

Interestingly, earlier in December Rohit Sharma had signed up to be the brand ambassador of La Liga. Sharma during his unveiling as the brand ambassador had said “Football in India, is in its global growth trajectory and it is heartening to see that it is no more considered as the ‘sleeping giant’. Over the course of the past 5 years, we have witnessed significant growth in the interest of football in India. Credit must be given to everyone associated with it, including the fans.”

“I am truly delighted to be associated with LaLiga. It’s encouraging to see the Spanish giant have made inroads into the Indian football ecosystem through their grassroots programme. Personally, I see this as an interesting journey for me into the beautiful game with LaLiga. I look forward eagerly to connecting with the football fans in India.”
