Arsenal came from behind to draw 2-2 with Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena in Munich on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, in Matchday 3 of the Champions League league phase. Declan Rice scored the equaliser in the 82nd minute, rescuing a point for the visitors, who had been on course for a first loss in 14 league phase or group stage outings. Bukayo Saka also went off injured early in the match.
Saka was substituted in the 10th minute with the score 0-0. He had played a pass from the right side before going down, and he went straight down the tunnel. Eberechi Eze replaced him and scored the opening goal in the 25th minute with a first-time volley, set up by a Martin Odegaard pass. Arsenal therefore took the lead despite losing Saka so early in the contest.
Bayern levelled in the 35th minute through Alphonso Davies, set up by a through-ball from Harry Kane. Kane then put the hosts ahead in the 61st minute from the penalty spot after Jurrien Timber handled the ball. Manuel Neuer, who had been a doubt with a foot injury before kick-off, played in goal for Bayern. Arsenal then had to chase the game for the final stretch.
The equaliser came after a passing move involving Noni Madueke and Viktor Gyokeres. Rice raced into the box and finished past Neuer from an acute angle in the 82nd minute. The goal ensured Arsenal avoided a defeat that would have ended their unbeaten run of 14 such games, and it left the contest level at 2-2 at the Allianz Arena, with Bayern unable to find a winner.
Kane's penalty was his 16th goal in 22 games against Arsenal. It also made him the second player after Cristiano Ronaldo to score in 10 consecutive Champions League games. Speaking after the final whistle, Bayern striker Harry Kane said: "A little bit of disappointment, but I think a draw was a fair result." He added: "We take the point and move on."
Arsenal had won both of their previous Champions League games this season without conceding, and had won 10 of their 11 matches in all competitions before this fixture. Bayern arrived after a 3-3 draw with Viking. Before kick-off, Bayern were without Jamal Musiala, who was out with a thigh injury, and Michael Olise, who was suspended. In last season's group phase, Arsenal had beaten Bayern 3-1.
Arsenal's next game is a Premier League match at home to Everton this weekend. Piero Hincapié may return for that fixture, as manager Arteta indicated before the Bayern game. The match follows a midweek night in Munich in which Arsenal took an early lead through Eze, fell behind to goals from Davies and Kane, and then needed Rice's late strike to leave with a point.
