The minor -league of the NBA usually continues until the end of March, with the playoffs beginning in April. Adrian Wojnarowski points out that the apparent issues with the schedule and the logistics involve with the G League players flying on commercial airlines and being “money losers” for NBA clubs make it impossible for the remainder of the season to compete.
ESPN’s Malika Andrews along with Wojnarowski reported that the players have been told they will be paid through the end of the schedule, though for now, teams are still hoping the season will resume at some point.
“Beyond obvious calendar issues, the fact G league teams travel on commercial airlines and generally are money-drains for NBA teams make it even harder to move forward for the rest of the season.
No imminent announcement and G-League teams have been told to stay in town for now.” Wojnarowski tweeted.
The G league currently has 28 teams, with the Wisconsin Herd (Bucks affiliate) and Salt Lake City Stars (Utah Jazz) sitting atop the Western Conferences respectively. And G league players reportedly earn around $7000 monthly or $35,000 for the whole season.
Potential cancellation of the G League season comes as the CDC has suggested that the organizers shall cancel or postpone all the activities in the United States for the next eight weeks with if 50 or more people gather together for any such event.
