Jamaica Tallawahs Assistant Coach, Ramnaresh Sarwan has decided to opt-out from CPL 2020 due to personal reasons. He is replaced by former West Indies spinner Ryan Austin and Vinod Maharaj, who will be the new assistant coach for the upcoming CPL 2020.

Sarwan requested leave for personal reasons and that was granted” Tallawahs CEO Jeff Miller confirmed the news.

It’s a big loss. Sars (Sarwan) brings a lot to the game – his knowledge, his experience and the way he has dealt with the players over the years, so it is a great loss,” he added.

A few months ago, Sarwan landed himself in a controversy as the serious allegation was raised against him by former Tallawahs and Caribbean star Chris Gayle. According to Gayle the former coach didn’t want him in the squad. After this Gayle ended up signing a contract with St Lucia Zouks before opting out his name for the upcoming edition of CPL which starts from 18th August behind closed doors.

Miller assured that team has to move forward quickly and focus on lifting the title thrice as they lifted the trophy in 2013 and 2016.

We are going to look to move forward. This is a rebuilding year for us, (but) I don’t just want to say rebuilding. We are here to win the tournament. I think we have a great team and the guys are keen and ready to go, and let’s see at the end what happens, but we are definitely looking forward to having a great tournament this year,” he said.

Tallawahs will play their first match against St Lucia Zouks on August 19 to kick-start their CPL campaign.
