The Proteas skipper said that former captain Faf du Plessis’ comeback after being rested for the series against their arch-rivals Australia will be a great asset and will hold the key for the visiting side in the upcoming ODI series against India.
On the eve of the first One Day International, South Africa captain and wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock said:
“Obviously, Faf (du Plessis) has comeback. He plays a big role for us from the leadership point of view. He is here to help out the younger guys in the team. He adds a lot of value for us. He also knows he has lot of value to give to this team. His experience will be a big help for us in this series,”
The captain of the team also went on to say that the Proteas side is with a quite inexperienced side and it is important for the young players to make a name for themselves in the series. He also mentioned that Faf du Plessis, David Miller and himself will be guiding the youth and pass on the knowledge.
“We understand that we are coming here with quite an inexperienced side in these conditions but it’s important Faf, me, David Miller to help out these guys around, lead the way. Pass on our knowledge to the youngsters.”
Faf du Plessis had to be rested for the ODI series which was against South Africa at home, the Proteas won 3-0 of the same. Talking about the importance of the break for the former skipper, QDK opined:
“He (Du Plessis) was given a chance to have a break. It’s been a long season so I think it was important to let him put his feet up for a while, just re-organise his thoughts.”
There is no substitute of experience and the South African skipper is glad to have the senior player back in the team. Talking about that, Quinton de Kock said:
“Just glad to have him back with us. We are undecided where he is going to bat at the moment but we will come up with the decision later,”
After drubbing Australia back home, the visitors are brimming with confidence coming into the tour, said the Proteas skipper. However, he also respected the opposition, Team India and gave them the required credits. Quinton de Kock opined:
“India is an unbelievable team, they have got great balance, but I am sure we are also coming here with a lot of confidence,”
The left-arm seamer and a fast bowler, Beuren Hendricks has recovered from the illness and is all set to be available for selection. However, the captain of Proteas is unsure about the availability of one of the trusted players, Temba Bavuma who is still recovering from a hamstring injury. Adding to that, the skipper mentioned:
“Beuran was unfortunately ill back in South Africa but he is back up for selection. Temba we will find out today but I don’t think he will be ready, I am not sure,”
