PV Sindhu Leads India’s Badminton Charge at Swiss Open
Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu will be the main player for India at the Swiss Open badminton tournament.1 The tournament starts on Tuesday at St Jakobshalle in Basel, Switzerland.2 This is a Badminton World Federation (BWF) Super 300 tournament, meaning it’s a significant event for players looking to improve their rankings.3
PV Sindhu, who is ranked 16th in the world and won the Swiss Open in 2022, will face another Indian player, Malvika Bansod, in the first round. Bansod is ranked 28th in the world.4 This all-Indian match will be a tough start for both players. Other Indian women’s singles players in the tournament include Anupama Upadhyaya, Aakarshi Kashyap, and Rakshitha Ramraj.5

Priyanshu Rajawat and Kiran George are also playing in the men’s singles category for India. However, India does not have any players in the men’s doubles category for this tournament.
In the women’s doubles, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, who are ranked ninth in the world, will compete.7 Other Indian women’s doubles pairs include Priya Konjengbam and Shruti Mishra, and Varshini Viswanath Sri and Arathi Sara Sunil.
Furthermore, India has two mixed doubles pairs in the main draw: Ashith Surya and Amrutha Pramuthesh, and Sathish Karunakaran and Aadya Variyath.9
For the top seeds in the singles categories, China’s Shi Yu Qi is the top seed in the men’s singles, and Thailand’s Pornpawee Chochuwong is the top seed in the women’s singles.10
