Andy Flower’s appointment comes after RCB parted ways with their previous head coaches, Mike Hesson and Sanjay Bangar. The three-time finalists are hoping that the veteran coach will help them end their silverware drought in the upcoming IPL season. Flower’s chances of winning the IPL will increase if he gets the players of his choice, preferably the ones who have performed well under him in the past.
Richard Gleeson (Delhi Bulls and Gulf Giants)
Richard Gleeson has played for two franchises associated with Andy Flower. He was picked up by Flower for the England Lions in 2018 and performed well. He has also played in the Abu Dhabi T10 League and the ILT20 for the Delhi Bulls and the Gulf Giants. Gleeson has showcased his raw pace and ability to extract bounce off any surface.
In the first ILT20 season, he took six wickets in five matches with an economy of 5.63. With Josh Hazlewood battling injuries, Gleeson could potentially serve as a backup and make his mark in the powerplay at the Chinnaswamy Stadium with the new ball. Gleeson’s performances have earned him a place in the national T20I side as well. It will be interesting to see how he performs in the upcoming IPL season.
Dawid Malan (Trent Rockets)
RCB had a tough time with their middle-order batting in the last IPL. Rajat Patidar would have been a good option, but he missed the tournament due to injury. Dawid Malan could be a good fit for RCB. He played a crucial role in Trent Rockets’ title win in The Hundred. The left-handed batsman made 377 runs in nine innings, averaging 53.85 with a strike rate of 53.85. . He could balance the power shift from the top order to the middle order. He has also played for the Punjab Kings in the past.
Blessing Muzarbani (Multan Sultans)
Blessing Muzarabani is an amazing talent. He has played in the Pakistan Super League for Multan Sultans. He took 10 wickets in six matches at an economy of 7.71 in the 2021 edition. He could be a great addition to the RCB squad with the pace and bounce he brings. He was almost picked up by Andy Flower’s LSG as a replacement player but they went with Andrew Tye. He went unsold in the IPL 2023 mini-auction.
