Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has backed his side and said that they will surely come back stronger in the next season of the Champions League. His statement came after his side’s defeat to Lyon 1-3 in the quarter-finals match led to the departure from the Champions League.

“Now yes they are disappointed, but after the break when we start again, we will recover. We will restart again and try to do it again. Of course, I am not able with these guys to break the quarter-finals. Three years in a row we are out. Life is how you stand up again and next season we will try again,” Guardiola was quoted as saying on the club’s official website.

The forthcoming season of the Premier League is slated to kickstart from September 12 and the City has merely four weeks to prepare for that after its ouster from the Champions League.

The Sky Blues has had a hectic schedule since the season resumption, playing 14 matches in the last eight weeks. The players have a short time gap for the preparation.

“Yeah, but it is what it is. We knew it. The show must go on. Now it’s time for the players to take a break. We will give them as many days as possible,” Guardiola said.

“Next season we will be strong and demanding. We will now try to sleep, pass 48 hours and then think about next season,” he added.

Manchester City finished the 2019-20 Premier League season as the second-best team after the titleholder Liverpool FC.
