PCB to Postpone West Indies Series in 2024 to Avoid PSL Clash

The PCB is considering whether to postpone the home series against the West Indies, which is scheduled for February and March in 2024 and conflicts with the next PSL season. The PCB has also asked the Emirates Cricket Board to postpone their ILT20 competition by 10 days in order to prevent clashing games.

According to the ICC’s FTP, Pakistan will host the West Indies for two Tests and three T20 Internationals early in 2024, which has also been the time period for the PSL to be held since 2016. It was confirmed at the most recent PSL governing council meeting that the PCB can “sacrifice” the home series. In an effort to create a clear window for the next PSL, the board has started negotiations with a number of stakeholders.

The PCB may encounter additional difficulties if the West Indies series is played after Ramadan, which falls after the second week of April. Several West Indies players may be unavailable for the bilateral series in Pakistan because the IPL is set to take place in April–May. The PCB hasn’t provided any information regarding a potential new date for the series, but there have been discussions about the idea of playing the home series from March to April, when Ramadan is observed.

However, as players will be fasting during that month, playing Tests will provide significant difficulties. Although the five-match T20I series was played at night and the five ODIs were played after Ramadan, the PCB had played a limited-overs series against New Zealand this year during the holy month of Ramadan.

The PCB is also preparing to add two additional teams to the PSL, perhaps extending the window by ten days. To persuade the current six teams to participate in the expansion, the PSL and finance departments are now putting up a proposal on the financial distribution model, scheduling, and commercial aspect. However, there are a few obstacles, including the window, which must be overcome.
